Happy Leap Day!

Today is "Leap Day" or the extra day in the year in a leap year.

No.... I don't mean to tell anyone to leap off anything! ( I could think of a few I would say that to, but thats not nice)

What is a leap year?
A leap year is a year in which one extra day has been inserted, or intercalated, at the end of February. A leap year consists of 366 days, whereas other years, called common years, have 365 days.

The purpose of this is to make up the difference between the calendar year and the solar year. It is convenient for us in daily life to go by a calendar year of 365 days. The solar year, which measures time by the movement of the Earth round the Sun, is actually 365 days and about six hours long. In four years, these six hours a year make an extra day, so we have a year with an extra day in it, a leap year. ZZZZZZZZZZZ......

Sorry I dozed off for a moment!

On a more serious note, I want to take a moment to say goodbye to a guy that inspired alot of car guys, Boyd Coddington passed away Wednesday morning and he will be greatly missed by many!

For a man who was lucky enough to make a living doing something so enjoyable. RIP "Hot Rod King"

Figure 8 Racing!

One form of racing that I have never had the pleasure to see is Figure 8 Racing!

I'm going to make a point of making it to some races this summer. In the past I have talked to many people who have either have raced it or watched it & the excitement in their voice is enough to tell me I have to see it!

Today I'm going to give a plug to a website that has been covering Figure 8 Racing for quite some time:

http://www.iowakrazy8racingfanatics.com

I have often looked at this site to see what track races when.... it's time I set some dates on the calender.

I would like to make Brooklyn Iowa on a Saturday night this season. It looks like it would be right around a 1 hour road trip..... Who's In?

    Viva LAS VEGAS!

Sunday’s UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway marks another significant milestone for NASCAR’s new race car. The now-generation car will compete for the first time on a 1.5-mile track, an event presaged by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ two-day test there in late January. Reaction was positive.

“Teams came out of there with high marks on the new car, the way it handled and they really liked the tire package,” said Brett Bodine, NASCAR’s Director of Cost Research. “We feel like the education process for the teams really went to another level after that test, with them coming out of there with a really good feeling about the car and what they learned.”

Teams used the new car in 16 of 36 events last season. It will run fulltime in 2008; in fact, the season’s first four events come at tracks where the new car races for the first time — Daytona International Speedway, Auto Club Speedway, Las Vegas and Atlanta Motor Speedway.

If I could choose anywhere in the World to move to, Las Vegas would be VERY high on the list. I have had the most fun in that town! Talk about a city that don't sleep, this would be number 1.

The only problem with that idea would be that I'm not sure how long I could keep the pace there.... but it sure would be fun trying to find out!

    Life Of A Weather Man!

Looks like we missed the big storm they said was going to hit us! We did get the rain at first.... but not too heavy.

I often thought that being a weatherman would be a great job. All you need to be a weatherman is a nice suit & a big window! You look out the big window and say " Right now it is ____ outside" then you just guess what you think the weather will be later & tell people that!

Half of the time you are everyones favorite person..... half the time they hate you, but all you have to say is the wind changed and it missed us!

That is my answer from now on for anything I do that is wrong! "The Wind Changed So I Didn't Get That Done!"

Oh Well.... It sounded good too me!

    NASCAR on Monday?

Looks like we will have to tune in today at Noon to see the finish of the Auto Club 500 from California. I had the Tivo set so we could watch some movies & I could catch the race later in the night! I'm sure glad I checked in a little on the race, or I wouldn't have much race coverage of what did run yesterday!

Another big winter storm on the way today...... Oh Boy I can't wait! There better be one hell of a great Spring & Summer in the works for this year!

I'm trying to figure out what I will do on Friday, I consider the extra day in a leap year as a free day that don't count towards your life! I will keep you posted on my plans!

Well time to start the day..... want to make sure I'm free by lunch time to catch the end of the race.

    Sunday,Sunday,Sunday!

The walk went great yesterday, there were a ton of people at Westdale!

Last night a group of us made our annual trip to the Monticello car show.
Still the best indoor wintertime car show around. They had a very good
mix of cars & some great bikes as well.

We got a big kick out of the celebrity guest this year..... John Milner from
American Graffiti (Paul Le Mat) & Eddie Munster ( Butch Patrick) I must
say.... time hasn't been good to either one of these guys!

Now.. a little incite into Eddie Munster.......

Patrick Alan Lilley (born August 2, 1953), better known as Butch Patrick.
He played Eddie Munster on the tv show The Munsters (1964-1966)
for which he was paid $600 per episode & like many sitcom actors of
the 1960's.... he receives no residuals for reruns of The Munsters!

I have to note his biggest accomplishment in my mind was, in 1983
when he formed a band called "Eddie And The Monsters" with their smash
hit "What Ever Happened To Eddie?"

    Walk For A Cure!

Well.... this morning is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk For A Cure! This will be 3 miles around the inside of Westdale Mall.

The Big House Motorsports team will be in full force. We are going to have lots of family and freinds along for the walk. Big House is the team captain & I'm sure he was the leader in donations as well. I will have to let you know tomorrow how it goes!

It will be good to see allot of people inside Westdale Mall.... Lord knows the place hasn't had much foot traffic lately.

    Thats it for now...

    Lets Go Racing!

WOW! I woke up this morning & stepped outside to grab the news paper and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's 75 & Sunny!

I could hear the birds chirping & smell the fresh cut grass on my neighbors lawn.

I pulled on my shoes , headed straight to the garage to roll out the racecar.

It's great to hear the cackle of the exhaust & smell the fumes of racing gas! Boy this is going to be a great night for racing! Better pull the truck up to the trailor to hook up!

Oh Well..... you can't blame a guy for trying to cheer himself up.... I'm so sick of this snow I could just S@*T!

Looks like the only thing I will be rolling out of the garage today will be the damn snowblower! (2 cycle fumes just aren't the same!)

Hopefully it will at least warm up enough to melt some of this crap off the drive way, I would like to see some concrete for once!

OK.... I know I'm rambling now..... I better get some coffee!

    "Start Your Engines!"

    2008 Race Season Is Here!

Well it's official.... the 2008 race season is here!

The weather on the local front don't show any signs of the race season being even close, but last Sunday my spirit was sitting in a luxury suite box in Daytona watching the 500!

My hopes of Waltrip racing doing well this year started on a pretty good note. Mikey, Dale & David all made the 500 (without cheating!)

Back here in reality..... I was in front of the TV at the Victory Lane Daytona party, with family & friends enjoying good food & cold beer! Oh... I'm not a big fan of Ryan Newman, but I was glad to accept the $100 first place prize in the pool. Thanks Ryan!

As far as local racing goes.... Not sure what will happen with the Big House Motorsports hornet, but we will have that figured out in time.

Well, I think that is about enough Rambling for now, keep checking back & I will keep Rambling!
